Why are you in business in the first place?

I want to work for myself… oh, I guess that is not true is it? I work for the homeowners I am under contract with…

How about, I want to have unlimited time to myself and unlimited money… oh, I guess that is not true either, especially if you read yesterdays post…

I know, I know… I want to start late and stay late… yeah, that’s it.

I am an entrepreneur and that is the only answer I can give you… right, wrong, indifferent, there you have it.

How do you manage your time, specifically juggling your personal and business needs?

I don’t. I would love to say that I am able to totally separate the two, but, my family would call me on it.

Fortunately, my wife is my business partner, so that solves that problem, we see each other all day every day. Unfortunately, pillow talk is construction.

Fortunately my children have always come with us and even now will help when asked. Unfortunately, I wonder how this lifestyle will affect their memories and who they become as adults.

Fortunately, I absolutely love what I do.

Chuck replies: Word of mouth mostly. My partner Lindy goes to networking meetings and we also use social media online. But, most of the new clients come from existing clients.

Regardless what is going on with the economy, this is typically the time of year when most of you start thinking about home remodeling projects.

Planning will be your first step, and that is why I recommend the Home Remodeling Plan Workbook that we have assembled for you. As you start working your way through the planning process, start thinking about the biggest issue of all: how to hire a contractor.

It may be true that you are going to do it yourself home remodeling, but, you may want to hire out some of it.

Really. You might. It is not always cost effective to do it all yourself. You may not have the skill level required for the finish that you want. You may not have the tools and equipment, and renting these may be way to costly. And sorry to say, but, when it comes to some tasks, you just flat out may not have the physical strength to do it. Although, if you want to work out and get that strength, I can recommend a good trainer for you.

The other reason a DIY home remodeler should consider this important task is that you really need to have a contractor on standby, just in case. You will have to pay them a negotiated fee for their expertise, even if it is just a phone call. But this fee will never be as high as what could happen without their expert opinion.

So, don’t strike out on your own with this, I am your home remodeling coach for a reason. Use me! At least stop by the site and read what I have to say on this important subject.
